My thoughts on Acceptance, and how it came to be...
I was recently prompted by a friend to draw what acceptance was to me…
To me, acceptance is a core value based in personal truth, understanding, compassion for oneself and their world, and love. It’s pretty simple to me.
So I based my drawing on my understanding of truth in acceptance, and my focus was in the sharing of the love between life partners, and lovers, and also from the perspective of a parent to a child…
As with everything, I believe art should evolve in concept from medium to medium…and since my focused mediums are graphite on vellum, and acrylic on canvas and they are what I have used to complete this work, and something I wanted to share with those of you who would like to know the mediums/foundations I am working with/on for the completion of this project.
As I went from vellum to canvas, I saw a broader picture I wished to share, and in that my thought that partnerships are choices we all make, by how what may work for me may be a different vision/choice for someone else…and I represented that concept in the execution of this piece.
Thereby making it a painting with a deeper message for society to see from a larger perspective as a message with value to those who understand that love comes in more than one form and concept, and a family is about those people in your life who live in trust and truth with you in a way that makes sense to you…I took it further and worked to represent several cultures, and genders through the faces I used, and their placement.
As I was completing the project I noticed a news story about the death of a strong voice in the teaching of acceptance of one’s differences through her life living as the world’s record holder for tallest woman…she was only 53 years old. I remembered seeing her speak as a child, and her understanding of tolerance through acceptance made a deep impression on this young artist.
That is where I painted this painting from…and what acceptance truly means to me.
I am very fortunate to have Dain Branham documenting my work through her photography.
Thank you,
