Artist Statement

This work of art is my understanding of the fight many have fought to bring to light the Journey of Women’s and Children’s Rights, as well as Gay and Lesbian Rights, and the current/ongoing fight people with disabilities have both from their communities and their access to viable and reasonable healthcare that allows them the choice of how they are cared for, and by whom.

It also demonstrates my true respect for the historical battles that have been fought by the Civil Rights movement in the USA, as well as recognizes several key figures from around the World, and by how the truth shows we are all linked together in this common fight though our individual causes may be seen as very different.

I am also making several statements through the creation of this art...

I believe that a woman’s right to choose should never be up for debate. It is a personal choice for the woman making it, and it is currently a civil right that is also a basic human right by the nature of the situation that brings a woman to this very personal, life altering choice.

If a woman knows that her child will be subjected to pain and hardship because of her knowledge of herself and her situation, then I believe an abortion prior to 12 weeks is a basic human right. I do not believe in late term abortions unless the mother’s life is in danger, and the only way to save the mother is to lose the child.

If the fetal material collected, or embryos set to be destroyed can help to save or better prolong lives through science and the developments of cures...then how does life end?

Medical treatment is also a basic human right by the oaths of the Doctors who truly practice medicine that is healing....
and it should be available to every individual needing care, testing, and treatment without the concern that very care will bankrupt ones family.

I also believe that Doctors who are cheating the system or risking undue lives by the practice of using poor, and/or un or under-insured individuals for medical testing without regard for the life of the individual trapped in that situation shall be held accountable by our laws of civil and human rights…

...add to that the fight that handicapped individuals face just to be taken seriously in this marketplace, and find gainful support and reasonable employment, that also supports their care with insurance that actually allows them the ability to care for their needs and the needs of their families.

Couple that aspect of my concept with powerful imagery of what abuse does to women and children forced by social/economic conditions that are in some way/most cases beyond their control...I am then addressing another aspect of basic human rights...

Add then the faces of women raped by war, and duty to religion and/or forced marriage...

And then add the Fight of Men and Women who find love in non-traditional ways, and in my belief, my God is Love, in truth and My God would never deny Love or One's Personal Truth of Love regardless of the sex of their partner, and I think it is disservice to God that there is a movement in this Nation forbidding two people who love one another the right to marry, period...and to state that is a basic civil right in my Nation, of which I am obviously very patriotic toward.

Therefor, I can't accept that my God would hold judgement over love...another basic human right.

Then take these rights back through the history of Great Men and Women who fought, walk/walked, and lived and died to wake up a world to the truth through their understanding and goals to bring forth light on civil and human rights...

...and if and as you begin know me as the human being I am, you will then see I am creating this work in the truth within my Spirit, and by the truths I live within my life.

Thank you,
Amy Stewart Hale, PennDragon Studios
